The Day a Room in Las Vegas Stood Up

David Karp giving his keynote at the CXO 2.0 Conference in Las Vegas

In April I gave a keynote talk at the CXO 2.0 Conference in Las Vegas. The room was full of CEOs, founders and executives. And I asked everybody to stand up.

I said, put your stuff down, stand up for a moment, just for a couple of minutes here. Stand relaxed with your feet shoulder-width apart. Arms at your sides, let your shoulders drop. Take a few slow breaths in and out, as if your breathing is going in through your heart center and out through your heart center.

Then, with your eyes gently closed, say your name out loud quietly. Say, "My name is," and say your real name. For most people, there's a very subtle pull forwards. That gentle lean is your body saying yes.

Then we tried the opposite. "My name is Mickey Mouse." And many people noticed a slight lean backwards. Your weight goes back on your heels. That's your body saying no before your mind even had time to think about it.

That's the Sway Test. It's the easiest way into Intuitive Response, which is muscle testing. And it's the doorway into everything that I teach.

Now, nobody is going to stand up in the middle of a boardroom meeting and start swaying back and forth. I wouldn't expect that either. That's why in my first book, I teach 16 different methods. Because we're all different. You find the one that gives you the clearest answer, and then you practice it.

So I taught the room my favorite for quiet everyday use. I call it the Sticky Fingers method. You simply rub the pad of your thumb against your index finger, very gently. Say "My name is," or just think it, and your fingers rub smoothly. Then try "My name is Mickey Mouse." And it sort of starts catching. A tiny catch, a slight stickiness. Another way to do it is to rub your fingertip on a smooth surface.

You can have your hand in your pocket, or under the table. You can do this while you're looking at somebody directly across the boardroom table. Nobody will ever know.

Then I told them how I got to Dubai. That story begins in India.

About a month after my third book was published, I went to India for the Maha Kumbh Mela festival. It's the largest gathering of human beings on the planet. I was sitting in a tent with a group of monks when a fellow Westerner walked past the tent opening. He was wearing a big hat. I saw him out of the corner of my eye, and something in my gut told me to jump up and catch up with him. So I did.

Within a few minutes, I mentioned my Truth Whispering books. And he told me he had read my book just the month before. He'd had this thought, "I'd like to meet this guy someday." That was Alex. He's the founder and CEO of R.Evolution.

He told me he's creating a building in Dubai called EYWA. He calls it the smallest blue zone, the size of a single building. And he invited me to come to Dubai and see it for myself.

They're building crystals right into the foundation, rose quartz, amethyst and tourmaline, following the principles of Vastu Shastra. That's the Indian science of spatial harmony, older than feng shui. There are Faraday cages built into every bedroom wall. And there's a structured water system, where positive vibrations are played into the water through special speakers.

I felt like I had to go to India. I didn't really know why. I didn't have any expectations. I'd never been to Dubai. And I ended up doing two months of work there with Alex and the company. I was just open, and whatever was to unfold just all came together.

Then I found out the conference had a Dubai edition too. So I asked Alex, "Would you like to be a sponsor at this conference?" It's about health, and his building is about health. So we had a booth together in Las Vegas, and that's how I came to be on that stage.

While I was there, I also received an award.

Something to try

Try the Sticky Fingers method right now, wherever you're sitting. Gently rub your thumb against your index finger. Think, "My name is," and say your real name. Then think, "My name is Mickey Mouse." Notice the difference.

It's a quiet way to feel your own yes and no. You can try it right now, or the next time you're sitting in a meeting.

Some of you have already started on this path, and for some of you it's brand new. Either way is okay. Just try it and see.

If you want to know more, come check out my free Truth Whispering class. I teach it once a month, and you're welcome to come. You can also watch the whole talk from Las Vegas. And I teach all 16 methods in my first book, Truth Whispering Part I: Finding the Truth.
